• “Ultimate FAQ Settings” is accessible to all users on my site. By default new/public user’s are contributers and they have full access to the settings page. This is undesirable and I can’t find a way to disable access.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi emonney,

Contributors have access to edit posts, but only their own. So they will be able to see other people’s posts, but not edit them. And they will be able to create their own. They would indeed have access to change the settings. I’d suggest looking into using a plugin like Adminimize, which lets you control/restrict permissions and menu items based on user role.

I have this problem too. The adminimize plugin that you recommend works, but has many other problems. This plugin is therefore not usable. You can not exclude users with the User Role editor plugin. (think especially of the settings) Can not user roles options be added to your own settings?

    Hi @traindriver ,

You can control who has access using the “Set Access Role” option in UFAQs Basic settings.

This option is on administrator but every other user with lower rights also has all options available in the backend. So I do not really understand why. You?

    Hi traindriver,

That setting only affects our plugin. It gives them access to our plugin’s admin.

I understand that it is only for you plugin, but as I said the plugin is on administrator and so I think that user with lower rights should not see the settings of your plugin? But they do, so something is wrong! Can not discover why

    Hi train,

Your only other option would be to directly edit your permissions table, which probably wouldn’t be straightforward. This is the reason plugins like Adminimize exist, so you have full control over your dashboard access for things like your custom post types (of which our plugin is one). Adminimize has a lot of options. Simpler solutions probably exist. You could also look into redirecting contributors when they log in and denying them access to the dashboard altogether.

Okay, I understand that. Just thought that if this option does not work in your plugin you would benefit from it if this were to be resolved. After all, others can also run into this problem. I have solved it myself with functions.php. Thank you for your comments
