• I just noticed as I navigated password change purgatory – the usernames are case sensitive? Isn’t that a little extreme? How about using the php strtolower function and saving the users a lot of pain…

  • Password security would drop by many, many, many, many orders of magnitude. I am in no way associated with the management of this site, but I’m sure that’s the reason for the case sensitivity.

User names are not case sensitive here. Passwords are.

However, I believe there’s an issue with some version of Firefox (I think) that causes it to behave oddly with mixed case user names. Clearing cookies or somesuch fixes it. (Sorry for the vagueness, I forget the detail.)

mrmist, user names ARE case sensitive. Says she who cannot login as ipstenu but CAN as Ipstenu ?? I THINK this actually is due to the integration with SVN, MediaWiki and the forums, but don’t make a bet on it.

Firefox’s issue is that it’s an idiot and thinks it knows better, so it’ll replace ‘Ipstenu’ as ‘ipstenu’ even if I go back and tell it to be uppercase.

It would looke like they’re only case sensitive in one direction, then, because I can log in as mrmist, MRMIST, mrMist, whatever. ??

That may be the case! Which … I wanna say that’s MediaWiki’s sticky wicket, now that I think more about it.
