udraftplus php fatal error when trying to download backup zip files

Hi,

Please can you send us a screenshot of the exact error you are getting? Does this happen on a specific backup component?

If you download the backups directly from the storage and unzip the files, are you able to unzip it successfully?

In this example I clicked on Uploads and then it loads and then on top of it the two buttons appear to download on the computer (left) or to delete from webspace (right)

Once clicking on download to computer the fatal error message of the initial post appears.

yes same result with the others i.e. I started left with database and error message appears. Manual download trials are not working and create same error.

Upon further investigation, I can see that the issue was from our old plugin version. Please can you confirm that you have the latest version installed?

Hi Soundbite,

I suggest doing the following to find out the cause of the issue.

1. Check the PHP error log. Ask you host to check and if they see any error related to UpdraftPlus.

2. Deactivate all other plugins except UpdraftPlus. Might be a conflict with other plugins.

3. Switch to default Twenty Twenty theme or others.

I asked my web hoster and they asked me to check if UpdraftPlus is working with PHP 7.3?
I couldn′t find out details but when looking into wordpress plugins it says it works with my wordpress version 5.5.
–> Do you know any issues with updraftplus not being compatible with php 7.3?

I found out a link where somebody is indicating similar issue as mine:

I checked with the Hoster. According to them they couldn′t find anything on the webserver error log.

I am still investigating for PHP log file with them.

What do you think about the problem. Is uninstalling and new installing of UpdraftPlus an option? Would this delete the previous backups automatically or do they remain and after installing updraftplus new it could access them again in case needed?.
What is the risk of doing this uninstalling and new installation? Can it be done via the WP backend?

Would be great to get you point of view.

May I know where you get the error message that you posted? Is that from the backup log or from your server’s log?

Hi,

the error message posted appears when trying to start the download. It appears in the browser window. The wordpress backend switches off and the browser is only showing this error message, nnothing else. I don′t know if this relates to backup log or server′s log or none of them.

I tried now to uninstall updraftplus and then installed it again.
Then I run a backup and it looked ok. When I then tried to download the back up files to the my PC the same error message appears on browser as before.

Conclusion: Uninstall and new installation of the plugin is not solving the issue.

Do you have any other idea how to solve this problem?

Hello Bryle,

Are you still there? The problem is still unsolved and I would love to keep updraft on my sites but with this problem I can′t.
My hoster is assuming that “the error message indicates that a method required for the download (“UpdraftPlus_PartialFileServlet :: send_file ()”) is not defined within the scripts or is possibly not (no longer) supported by the PHP version used”.
–> Is there anything we could review?

php version in use is 7.3. Note: I upgrated another site from 7.3 to 7.4 but the problem with updraft remain.
