Since 2-3 days I’m having this “critical error” in my Woocommerce online shop.

Every time I’m trying to save/update a product, after 35-45 seconds, it says (in the backend header):

“Connection lost. Saving has been disabled until you’re reconnected. We’re backing up this post in your browser, just in case.”

Then it takes about another 1,5 minutes (2:10 in total) when the following message appears:

“There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.”

Since the error appeared, I received 3 emails:

I already have deactivated the Rank Math plugin, but that didn’t help at all.

Also I can neither activate nor deactivate plugins in the backend. I need to use FTP, change the name, so it gets automatically deactivated, and then change the name back (the plugin then stays deactivated).

When I try to deactivate plugins in the backend, it takes up to 4-5 minutes until time out. After going back, the plugin is still activated.

When trying to activate an incative plugin, it also takes a long time until time out, but after going back or reloading the plugin page, that plugin is activated.

Last, I tried to deactivate the PayPal plugin and after more than 4 minutes the following error came up:

“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare wc_gateway_ppec() (previously declared in /www/htdocs/w00f568a/WEB_moleculecargopants_WP-Woo_2020-10/wp-content/plugins/woocommerce-gateway-paypal-express-checkout/woocommerce-gateway-paypal-express-checkout.php:38) in /www/htdocs/w00f568a/WEB_moleculecargopants_WP-Woo_2020-10/wp-content/plugins/woocommerce-gateway-paypal-express-checkout/woocommerce-gateway-paypal-express-checkout.php on line 38”

BTW: Saving/updating pages works just fine.

– I already “rolled back” the Woocommerce plugin to a version, when everything still worked fine.

– I have used a database backup from a couple of days before (when everything seemed to be all right).

– I have tried another theme (Twenty Nineteen).

– I have used the “Check Conflicts” plugin and deactivated all plugins except for Woocommerce.

Nothing helped!

– Another website on the same server (not wordpress / Woocommerce) works just fine.

– Internet works just fine.

I have read many posts on many different websites with a similar issue, but nothing lead me to any solution.

Please can anyone help?

Thanks RynaldOs,

I already had put the memory limit up to 512M. I now even tried 900M – doesn’t help.
Also nowhere in the error log does it mention “Allowed memory size of … bytes exhausted”.

Why do you thing my problem looks like memory exhaution?

If you scan WooCommerce Support threads for the past few days, you will see that this is a very bad bug encountered by multiple users, that currently is being crowdsourced for hacks. Y’all really should escalate and fix pronto, as it critically compromises site operations.

What worked for me was the solution given by Matt (@pkimatt) in this post:

Which is quite easy:

“Adding the following code into your functions.php file:
```
add_filter('woocommerce_admin_features', 'pk_woocommerce_admin_features');
function pk_woocommerce_admin_features($features) {
	if(($key = array_search('remote-inbox-notifications', $features)) !== false) {
		unset($features[$key]);
	}
}
```
Nevertheless, this can only be a temporary solution, really waiting for a Woocommerce-update and bug-fix.
