    Hello,

I had installed WP-Spamshield plugin (Version 1.9.21). The original has the following description:

An extremely powerful and user-friendly all-in-one anti-spam plugin that eliminates comment spam, trackback spam, contact form spam, and registration spam. No CAPTCHA’s, challenge questions, or other inconvenience to website visitors. Enjoy running a WordPress site without spam! Includes a spam-blocking contact form feature.

Recently, I noticed another WP-Spamshield plugin (Version 1.9.21) under Must-Use Plugins. It is titled as WP-SpamShield Anti-Malware; Functional Integrity Scanner. This duplicate plugin has the following description:

This checks for malicious plugin files and ensures plugin functional integrity.

    Questions:

    (1) I do not know who installed the MUP (duplicate). Is this part of an update to the original? Or could it be have been installed by the hosting company (Bluehost?)
    (2) For the functionality that WP-Spamshield promises to deliver, do I need to keep both plugins or can I remove one of these? If so, which one?

    Please advise
    Kind regards

    Abhijeet

    Hi @backpackingseries,

This was added in version 1.9.20. Please see the Changelog, as it’s explained there. It’s not a duplicate…it’s part of the plugin.

When you see something like that, the first thing you’ll want to do is check the changelogs for plugins on your site, as it would usually be explained there. If you still can’t find anything, and a file seems suspicious, then definitely ask. (You did the right thing…if it was malicious, then you would be able to get help.)

Please see the sticky post at the top of the forum — PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING — Updated June 2017, and follow the links there to our support documentation and to our official support page. (These links are also in the plugin’s settings page.)

Please note that we don’t provide support here at the forums, but we do provide excellent support through our site, which is better equipped to help our plugin users.

In the future, please direct all support requests to the plugin’s official support venue, the WP-SpamShield Technical Support page.
