• I have a site where I need to have one version of the site the way it is and I need to create another version with a different look so that it will fit into a sidebar of another program.

I have created a new directory in the root of the WP install and copied all the files over to it. I was hoping that I would be able to operate it as a separate WP and customize the theme but have the new psudo install look at the same tables or back end as the original.

I am not sure I am making sense here. My site is this https://SolidJott.com and I will have a sidebar browser in SolidWorks (A CAD program) look at a clone of the site with a different look to fit the side bar (see this pic https://solidjott.com/?p=71)

    How could one accomplish this?

    Thanks Ben

  • No, two different WordPress installs cannot share the exact same database. You can use the rss from one WordPress in another though.

I don’t know if this sort of thing would work in a CAD program web browser, but you can have browser conditional stylesheets or alternate media stylesheets with WordPress to change page appearance and layout. For example, I hide my sidebar in my print stylesheet.

Hummm I will have to see about that I noticed this theme has a iPhone version. I will have to figure out if there is a call for the browser in the CAD program. I will use Wazup to see I guess and hack away. Currently I have a theme chooser for the users and will optimize one for the CAD program. Not the best situation but…
