• I’m using the 2014 theme. I want to widen the content area of a post (decrease the margins) for one section of the post and then return to the regular margins.

    How do I do it??????????

What do you mean by one section of the post?

I have several paragraphs in my post. Now I want to add a couple of divs, one floating left and one floating right to divide some content into two categories side by side. Then I want to go back to the regular margins to continue the post.

You can’t do this; think of the layout as two pillars constraining your content. You’d have to first manipulate the structure of the pillars so that they bend out at a certain point down the column. Which means a theme modification first.

Ok. Can you get me pointed in the right direction for a theme modification?

Wouldn’t it just involve adding some php snippets to one of the wp_ files?

Sorry I can’t see how you can expand the width of these columns only at a certain point in the post
