Two post fields (with visual editor?)

  • So typically I use the custom field GUI plugin to get additional fields to work with on the write panel. However what I am working on now would ideally be suited to two identical post fields with the visual editor available on both.

    Alternatively, what could work is if I was able to add a number of quicktag buttons to the additional post field (that is currently present via custom field GUI).

    Any thoughts? existing plugins?

    essentially there is a description on the left handled by a custom field and a media part on the right which is being handled by the primary post field…

    ideally i’d like there to be buttons for the page division quicktag and making links etc with the description custom field…

    I’m sure others will come up with better suggestions, but I guess one could reference the existing quick tags interface? Although back with (2.3?) I did find this post helpful for adding quick tags to the normal visual editor.

    p/s: It’s a pity the (original) custom field GUI isn’t really being developed anymore. Alternative plugins that seem to have popped up are More Fields (actively developed I believe) and also Fresh Post (less well documented and not quite as robust).

    the more fields plugin is much nicer than using the custom fields gui.

    i think the root of the problem lies within trying to get the fields to parse the quicktags (it just will render the text of the tag when its published and not do anything with it.

    @damonzucconi: Too true! I really hadn’t thought of this at all. It would definitely seem to require a lot more work than just the simple edits I had originally (naively) suggested. Hopefully the More Fields plugin might be a little more customisable.
