    Hey!

I use the Meta description option of the Plugin, but now my page does have 2 of them since the Yoast one is just added to the page which already has this one:

<meta name="description" content="I'm Chris, a travel and guitar addicted German guy, traveling around the world since October 2014. Travel on a Budget." />

And the “new one” that shows up in the Google search:

<meta name="description" content="You don't need to be rich to travel around the world. I have traveled three years full time without a job and want to share my tips on how to keep your expenses low. Using Couchsurfing, the right techniques to find cheap flights and Hitchhiking for instance can safe you a lot of money!"/>

Is it normal to have 2 meta discriptions using the plugin or should the first one somehow be hidden / removed? I really only need the first on for the main homepage and for all my pages like Budget travel, I would like to use the one from the plugin.

    Thanks,
    Chris

The duplicate meta description typically occurs either from the currently active theme or 3rd party plugins. Therefore, we’d like you to please perform a conflict check by performing the following steps:
    1. Make sure the issue doesn’t persist when Yoast SEO is disabled.
    2. Check for conflicts.
    3. Check for JavaScript errors with your console.
If you find any JavaScript errors related to Yoast SEO or if there is a conflict with a plugin or a theme, you can create a new GitHub issue for our developers. Please report the issue to a third party developer as well.
If you didn’t find any conflicts or errors, we think the issue is specific to your site. We’d need to investigate further but are unable to do so on these forums. You can purchase Yoast SEO Premium and receive our Premium email support and we can help you further.

Thanks, i checked for conflits and only noticed that I was running on an old PHP version, which I now changed to 7.2 even though its just in Beta phase on my webserver.

Regarding 1), If I disable the Yoast Plugin, then obviously the meta:desription from the Yoast Plugin will not be there anymore.

I was just wondering if it is normal to have 2 meta:descriptions with the Yoast plugin? Because the SEO analysis sites say you should just have one.

And another issue I have is that myy site contains 2 canonical tags. One that I hardcoded and another one from the PLugin. Probably its best to just remove the hardcoded one as I should only have one, correct?

I guess for both its best to remove my hardcoded version, just want to make sure I am not missing anything here and then ruining my site in some way.

Yoast SEO doesn’t generate multiple meta descriptions. So, the additional meta descriptions you are seeing are generated either from 3rd party plugins or your currently active theme. So, it is recommended to perform the conflict check to find out the exact source of this. Once you know the exact source, you can disable the additional meta description.

On the other hand, we recommend you to remove the additional canonical that you have added manually.

Yes i know, Yoast is only generating one. Samee with canonical link. Its just “multiple” now because I have added both manaully in the header.php.

So I guess it is a normal procedure to remove any manually added meta:descriptions and canonical links while using Yoast pluugin since the plugin is generating both as well?

I am just double checking because I am new to this and don’t want to mess up anything ??

    Thanks so much!
