• I have a question. I want to ask this before I fully dive into Multisite. I will start from square one.
I have a blog and I want to use two themes on it. I see Multisite is the way to go.
    1) I want my static home page, community/Buddypress pages and blog page to use one layout.
    2) when someone clicks a post on the blog listings page, I want the posts themselves to use a different layout.

There is a plugin called Jonradio Multiple Themes and it can do exactly this, but it is not compatible with BuddyPress and it is not for individual posts.

In other words: the static page and blog page use one layout, the posts themselves use a different layout (and some posts use the layout that the first blog uses?). Can I do this with Multisite?

My test site, if it helps: thesocietyondarun.co.nf

  • Alternatively you can use templates [not themes] to create the various layouts and apply theme wherever you see fit.
Also you can use the plugin: ‘super slider per post code’; It will allow you to create styling per post so every page ofr post can be individually styled.

As you can see, there are may ways to get the results you’re looking for. Try what seems to work for you, combining solutions if need be.

Thank you!! I will try the Superslider Perpost Code plugin. I like that it allows custom styling per post. Thank you! And if that doesn’t work, I will try the templates. I never thought to use those for creating individual themes per post.

Quick question about that plugin: is there a JavaScript shortcode/ code that I can use to switch the themes? Google isn’t helping me at the moment.

    I don’t know, sorry.

You definitely don’t need Multisite functionality given your requests.

You don’t need to switch themes… You can design your theme so specific pages look specific ways, which can be vastly different from each other.
