the other day i modified the htaccess file to add gzip on my site. now i appear to have two htaccess files in my root directory, one with .htaccess (not including the gzip) and one without . that does include gzip. the site seems to be loading and acting normally but i don’t understand where the second htaccess file came from and whether or not i should delete it or leave it alone?

    anyone have any ideas??

    thanks

You probably just accidentally created it when editing the original.

A htaccess file will do nothing. Only a .htaccess file by used by WP
