The Two Factor Authentication was working fine for the last one year and suddenly it was showing error even with the emergency codes provided. So I did the most common work around and disabled it via FTP and logged in. But now the activation cannot be done and it shows there is a time mismatch whereas in the Wordfence Dashboard there is only a gap of about 10-12 seconds. So now I cannot activate the 2FA. I even searched the forum and did the suggested methods like disabling the Captcha, redoing the Google Authenticator, using other apps as listed… but nothing seems to work for me. Any help in this regards?

Hi @abhijitsarkar85, thanks for your message and all the detail provided so far.

When you say 10-12 seconds difference in the Wordfence Dashboard, is that when checked against your timezone in WordPress > Settings > General? There is a chance an update has changed this value, although that would be pretty rare. As 2FA can’t be reenabled for the same reason though, it suggests the mismatch is real rather than a one-off glitch between an already activated 2FA and an updated site. This is usually rectified by reenabling it as you’ve already tried.

If the mismatch persists it might be worth checking in with your host’s support channels in case they can spot a server time issue that might not be presenting at the front-end.

Failing that, please send us a diagnostic report to wftest @ wordfence . com in case we can find out further information about the issue. You can find the link to do so at the top of the Wordfence Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

Note: For the fastest response time, please make sure and add any information or questions directly to this topic and not the email address above unless asked.`

    Thanks,

    Peter.
