• I’m currently working on a multilingual real estate site in Portuguese and English. The English version is up and running, and I’m setting up the portuguese side using the WPML plugin. I’m debating whether to buy a second domain name… a portuguese literal translation of the original site’s domain name. For example, I have and existing site which is “acmerealestate.com”. For obvious reasons, it would be simpler to promote the translated version, “acmeimobiliaria.com”, here in Brazil. My idea is to purchase the new domain, then set up the new url to 301 redirect to the portuguese landing page of the original site. The new domain will not contain a site, and will only act as a “click-through” to “acmerealestate.com”.

Is my logic correct on this… is this a good or a bad idea? Shouldn’t this help SEO on the Brazilian localized search engines as well? I’ve searched for a while on this topic, but none seem to relate to this specific scenario, which I thought would be more common for multinational sites.

Any thoughts or links are greatly appreciated!
