• Hi there,

Since the upgrade to 2.8.1, I am getting this error.

Sorry, login failed. Error message from Twitter: Rate limit exceeded. Clients may not make more than 150 requests per hour.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? I am making about one blog entry per day.

  • Sounds like there’s a problem with your Twitter plugin.

I am having the same difficulty. I have only tried to activate this plugin (Twitter Tools) a couple of times. Someone I know is using it and is having no problem.

Actually I have spent the day trying various Twitter/wordpress related plugins and none of them connect with my Twitter account. They can’t all be wrong. Is there something in configuring these that I’m not getting? And yes, I do really have a Twitter account. Their widget works but I would rather not use it as it doesn’t really fit the appearance of my site.

    Can anyone help?

Are they using the same version of WP as you are? Are they using the same theme? Do they have exactly the same plugins installed as you do (and I mean all plugins – not just the Twitter ones)?

My friend is using the same theme as I am. He is definitely using WP 2.8, not sure about 2.8.1. Perhaps that’s the problem. About plugins, I don’t know but I hope there’s an answer somewhere.

Try deactivating all plugins and then re-activate the Twitter plugin to see if now works. If it does, re-activate the other plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    I use twitter-tools as well. I guess I shouldn’t upgrade to 2.8.1 yet!

Tried the suggestion of disabling all other plugins but that has not made any difference. When I test the log in information in the Twitter Tools options panel I get the message, “Log in Failed. Error message from Twitter. This method requires authentication.’ Seems like Twitter does not recognise this plugin’s permission to access my account. What does this mean? May try going back to WP 2.8 and see what happens.

    Thanks for suggestion anyway.

This may sound weird, but for me, I had to remove twhirl from my computer and now the plugin works for me again.

*shrug* Maybe it was reading client requests from ME? I don’t know, but it works again.

    Twhirl is a Twitter platform.

I’m using Twitter Tools w/ 2.8.1 and it’s working fine. This test tweet I just sent with it: https://twitter.com/mrheadrick/statuses/2630090799 It also keeps finding my new updates and showing them on my blog.

So, WordPress 2.8.1 by itself is not a problem with Twitter Tools.. something else is going on.

it’s relief to learn that it is not 2.8.1 as such. Don; particularly want to downgrade. So still a mystery but I read somewhere, maybe here that if you use your Twitter #ID in the configuration, it will work, but I can’ find a #ID on my account so haven’t tried.

I have the same problem that Rori but i don’t have twhirl. Somebody know the solution, please??

I have proved it with another twitter and works but with the one of my web it doesn’t work. This is very strange.

Author for tweet posts (WP Settings/Twitter Tools) must be the same like the one who is logged on, even when the post author chosen in the post is different.

… and/or if you have changed your password @ Twitter, you must update it in WP Twitter Tools.

I deactivated and reactivated and it was fine
