twitter tools 1.5.1a won’t authenticate at twitter

Mine has been working for a long time, and stopped this week. It hasn’t updated in several days now.

WordPress 2.7.1 and the latest version of Twitter Tools.

I have same problem.
My panel show me message when try to login:
Sorry, login failed. Error message from Twitter: Rate limit exceeded. Clients may not make more than 100 requests per hour.

I’m curious. How many people here that are still receiving the Login Failed message in Twitter Tools has enabled the Twitter Application in Facebook?

I’m receiving the “Sorry, login failed. Error message from Twitter: Rate limit exceeded. Clients may not make more than 100 requests per hour.” error as well. I’m using Twitter Tools 1.6 on WordPress 2.7.1. Would having Twitter Tools installed on multiple WordPress installations, using the same user credentials be the cause of the error?

could be, I run a backup locally, Twitter tools works nicely since disabling the plugin on my local copy.

@dgumper: I’m receiving the “login failed” error and I have the Twitter Application in Facebook enabled as well.

I have two blogs and one was working and the other wasn’t posting tweets from posts. I realized that the broken blog was not upgraded to wp 2.7.1 so I updated it. Still no luck. Then I deactivated and removed twitter tools, re-uploaded to the plugins directory, and activated. Now it’s working.

I am receiving the auth error
tried changing my password
tried deleting the plugin and reinstalling
Still wont work
Please help

With WP 2.6.2 and TT 1.5.1:
– Added TT code to add tweets to sidebar (not using widgets)
– Tried the ‘latests tweets’ version = it was pulling the OLDEST 5 tweets.
– Tried the ‘only the latest tweet’ code and it was pulling an old post still (from March, when there are many new posts in the last week – granted there were not many tweets in april and may)
– Realized I was running 1.5.1 so I upgraded to 1.6
– Then tested login and was getting the “Sorry, login failed. Error message from Twitter: Rate limit exceeded. Clients may not make more than 100 requests per hour” error.

Next, deleted TT plugin altogether and reinstalled 1.6, reactivated.
After initially getting the ‘requires authentication” error a couple of times, it suddenly started working with the latest tweet posted and the ‘goog to go’ message upon testing login.

I guess the delete and reload worked.

WP2.8 & TT1.6:
* Deactivated
* Deleted
* Reset password by email to a six alphanumeric character sequence
* Reinstalled
* Reactivated

There are a couple of things to consider here:

1. Make sure your browsers “auto-fill” feature isn’t inserting the username/password it has saved for your WordPress login into the Twitter Tools username/password fields. SOme browsers/toolbars do this, regardless of the instructions given by the HTML page. Since you can’t see the password, you may not be aware of this auto-fill happening, but then save the WordPress password as your Twitter Tools Twitter password.

2. Make sure you aren’t using a client that is hitting Twitter to frequently and getting rate limited.

I have a new blog and a new Twitter account. After having the above error I tried authenticating using my main Twitter account and had no problem. It’s only with the new one. Am not using any clients.

Don’t know what I did, changed my password a bunch of times but I got it to work.

Was able to fix it by deactivating, upgrading, and then reactivating Akismet.
