Hi Support, we are having some trouble posting to twitter and Facebook on the odd occasion with the large summary card on twitter not being used, only the {url} is posted. Over the past year we just post the {url} to twitter and Facebook and they use Yeost social open graph settings (large summary card) to post via buffer.

    Twitter has just stopped working, only dropping the {url}, and since updating Yeost, Facebook is presenting the right display when sending {url}

I have tried lots of things to get this fixed up, I am just reaching out for some assistance as I do not know what to do next. The dates this seems to of started occurring is mid October.

    WordPress Version – 5.5.1
WP to Buffer Version – 3.6.3
    Yeost: 15.1.1

    Screenshots demonstrating the issue
    Twitter not working: https://prnt.sc/v2rlsi
    Twitter Working: https://prnt.sc/v2rm0t
    Facebook Working: https://prnt.sc/v2rm9u
    Yeost: https://prnt.sc/v2rnff
    Buffer: https://prnt.sc/v2rnlm
    Logs: https://prnt.sc/v2rnqg

Exact steps taken to reproduce the issue: Create a Post Check Social Media pages after buffer posts.
What the error is – No error or errors in logs. Buffer posts what is sent to it which is only the {url} and relays to socials. Socials OpenGraph settings seem to not work anymore such as the large summary card specified in Yeost.
    What you expect to see – a large summary card instead of {url}

    Thank you for your guidance.

Please provide a screenshot of the status on Buffer when working and not working.

Hi wpzinc, thanks for getting back to me.

    Not Working: https://prnt.sc/v4hxhy

    Working: https://prnt.sc/v4hyt3

These logs are from the published posts in my previous message.

I’m referring to the status on Buffer (that is, buffer.com), when working and not working – not the Plugin’s log.

    Thank you.

Hi wpzinc, just checked on buffer.com we cannot find any logging in the tool. Only previous posts but they do not hold any logs either.

~~ Can you tell me how to access buffer.com logs? I can’t find anything on google about getting them either and searching the buffer console I cannot find any logs.

From buffer, the auto posts are going across to FB/TW but just not using the opengraph settings from what I can tell. So buffer.com I we see a success message.

We did find a notice in /developers/api on the 14th of October about the registered partners, our issues started from the 13th.

Is there something we need to configure or register for? We are just running the free version of buffer and your plugin with 2 social profiles.

It has been excellent all year up till the 13th.

~~ We have reconnected our twitter and facebook profiles to buffer, and did not see an improvement.

    Appreciate any further advice.

Can you tell me how to access buffer.com logs? I can’t find anything on google about getting them either and searching the buffer console I cannot find any logs.

Logging into your account at buffer.com will show a queue of scheduled statuses for each social media profile under the Queue tab. That’s where you need to look to see whether an image is or is not included.

The Analytics tab will show your past posts, again including or excluding an image, depending on whether Buffer was able to fetch an image from a given URL. So the data is absolutely there for you to review.

From buffer, the auto posts are going across to FB/TW but just not using the opengraph settings from what I can tell. So buffer.com I we see a success message.

    Then you need to ensure:
    1. Your status’ image setting = Use OpenGraph. Docs: https://www.wpzinc.com/documentation/wordpress-buffer-pro/featured-image-settings/
    2. Correct configuration of your SEO/OpenGraph Plugin. Remember, Buffer will be reading this data from the URL you’re sharing to determine the image to display. We don’t control this.

We did find a notice in /developers/api on the 14th of October about the registered partners, our issues started from the 13th.

Not related, noting that we are a registered partner, per our readme file. If there was truly a failure preventing all Plugin users from sharing an image with a status, I would reasonably expect to be bombarded with support requests both here and by email.

Is there something we need to configure or register for? We are just running the free version of buffer and your plugin with 2 social profiles.

    Answered above.

Hi, thank you very much for the continued help.

I do not see the options/settings you mentioned, we just have OpenGraph selected. I have been through your help files and tried and checked all our settings in Yeost. We cannot get the same results as you.

Normally for us up till now when posting the {url} to twitter and facebook would grab the first image in the post, we do not normally set a featured image on the post. Could this be why we are now seeing this?

We have tested on another website using All In One SEO with the option ‘first image in post’ selected, and posted via WP to Buffer and cannot get this buffer post with images /summary cards to work their either.

We also tested adding a featured image to the Yeost based website and could not get the large summary card to display their either.

    Buffer: https://prnt.sc/v69h4h
    AIO: https://prnt.sc/v69h9l
    WP TO Buffer Options: https://prnt.sc/v69hfc

I am unsure what to do next. Sorry for being a pain I just want to get to the bottom of the issue.

    Thanks!

    You’re welcome to:
    – test your URLs through https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug and https://cards-dev.twitter.com/validator. Any errors or warnings must be resolved, particularly regarding meta tags.
    – add a status directly through Buffer (that is, buffer.com, not our Plugin), sharing a URL and observing the results
    – work with Buffer (that is, buffer.com, not our Plugin) to resolve once the above is done

We’ve no other reports of such serious failings here, and given that we’re not able to reproduce the issue first hand (as demonstrated previously), coupled with this being a free Plugin, there’s a reasonable limit on the extent of free support that we offer here.

Hope you’re able to get the issue sorted.

    Thanks wpzinc,

I have tried various url’s in twitter validator and facebook debug, some display the card, some do not that should, it seems random.

We will keep at it and see if it resolves over the next while.

    Plugin Author wpzinc

    (@wpzinc)

The ones that do not validate would not display correctly when shared either directly, through Buffer or through the Plugin to Buffer.

You’d need to work with your web host and the social networks in question, ensuring that nothing on your web host is preventing continued, repeat access to given URLs (and possibly Buffer, who may have some insights here).

    (@chvtech)

Thanks wpzinc, I have just done some further testing using the validator/debug tools for a url that works and one that doesn’t. FB Debug returned the following on a URL that does not work on FB or TW

    URL not working: https://southwestvoice.com.au/upstairs-at-freds/

    Curl Error
    Curl error: 35 (SSL_CONNECT_ERROR)
    Inferred Property
The ‘og:image’ property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.
    Missing Properties
    The following required properties are missing: og:url, og:type, og:title, og:image, og:description, fb:app_id

    Working URL: https://southwestvoice.com.au/macarthur-you-rock/

    Missing Properties
The following required properties are missing: fb:app_id
But still displayed cards in FB and TW.

We know the OG is setup so this is something else causing this random working/not working.

I hope this helps out further for everyone.

Currently I am researching what the cURL error means and try to mend it.

We are using a CDN I am going to turn it off and see if this helps any.

    Thanks again for your support!

    (@wpzinc)

That would indicate a misconfiguration of your site’s SSL, which is something you’ll need to work with your web host to resolve.

    Hi,
same issue for me….suddenly the image on twitter stopping to work.
No SSL issues on my website…
I’m on wordpress 5.5.3 on namecheap hosting….the twitter plugin was workink since two days ago
If I go on buffer.com, edit the post in queue and replace the url with the original one, the short one will be generated and the image correcting is displayed….so I think that is something related to the plugin….
    Can you help me pls?

Hi @bitan29789 , we got ours working again by disabling the CDN. Not ideal but TW and FB cards are back to normal. Our server provider could not find anything wrong with our configuration or SSL.

Try this and see if it works, remember to flush the cache after disabling CDN.

    Good Luck!
