Hello. I’ve been assisting a client with their website and just this morning we’ve been encountering a problem with the Twitter feed. It is no longer displaying tweets, instead it is showing blank spaces with no information and no icons. Can you confirm what is happening?

Here is the help data from the plugin:

  • Same. Apparently any workaround is not longer valid and Twitter has shut off access to their API for good. Got to love it. Well.. bye bye Twitter.

Feed is blank. Creating new feeds also blank.

Twitter shut down api access on February 9th which doesn’t make sense that tweets have only shut down now on April 4th? But my feed is now blank, similair to above users. Question is does this mean that this plugin is no longer usable and if so are there any reliable alternatives?

    Hello everyone!

Addressing this unexpected shutdown, we understand that this has caused inconvenience to many of our users and we apologize for any frustration that this may have caused.

We want to assure you that we are working tirelessly to find a solution to this problem. We have a solution ready for our Pro users which will be rolled out this week, but unfortunately, it will take some additional time to implement for our free users.

We want to convey that this was unexpected for us, as Twitter did not communicate with us about when their decision to shut down their free API platform would take effect. However, we are committed to keeping our plugin working, and we are currently testing and finalizing a new solution that will enable us to do just that. Keep an eye out for coming updates to our plugin however for now, your feeds will not be working as expected.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time, and we will keep you updated as we progress with our new solution. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our support team.

Thank you for your continued support.

    Joel

While I understand the unpredictable stupidity that current Twitter leadership produces, it is a great sadness to read you will have a solution for your paying users within few days. Yet the rest of us are left with a plugin that stays unusable.

Prioritization for paying vs free customers is one thing when rolling out new functionalities but unless you’re providing something like your own dedicated resources to your paying customers, I’d argue waiting for basic functionality to be reinstated is very disappointing.

Thank you for your feedback, and we understand your disappointment. We want to assure you that we value all of our users, both free and Pro, and we are working hard to ensure that our new solution can be safely rolled out to all users.

While it may seem like we are prioritizing Pro users, the reality is that we have a limited number of Pro users compared to our free users. Rolling out the solution to Pro users first allows us to test and fine-tune the solution before releasing it to a much larger user base.

We also want to emphasize that the cost of developing and implementing this new solution has been significant, and we are exploring all options to ensure that we can continue to provide a free version of our plugin.

We understand that this situation has caused inconvenience for you and our other users, and we are doing everything we can to get everyone back up and running as soon as possible, including looking at whether we can still use the official Twitter API in any way. We will continue to keep you updated on our progress, and we appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.

I just post here to be notified of the replies by email.

Thanks in advance to the team.

Same for me here, I’m commenting to get news

Will it ever work or is it definitely over with this plugin?

My guess is there is no solution…

Hey @randon, @dandr69. We are actively working on a solution. One exists for the Pro version of the plugin, and for free users we are looking how this can be applied to the larger user base of our free users. This will require some type of authentication with our new API, which is why this is taking longer time than the Pro users that already authenticate via a license key. We will update everyone when we are updating the free version. Initially, this will be support for the official and paid version of the Twitter V2 API, and then our own new solution. We are very aware of the frustration of the plugin not working at the moment and for a while more, but rest assured that we are planning not to deprecate the free solution at all. If you have any questions, do let me know!

    Thanks,
    Joel

Just noticed our Smash Balloon Twitter feed was also not displaying posts, and having checked that our settings still looked OK, I guessed that it might have been a change at the Twitter end that had caused something to break. Googling brought me to this thread.

@joelsmashballoon do you have any likely timescale for when the fix for users of your free version might be rolled out?

    (@joelsmashballoon)

Hey @howardh and others in the thread, while we do not yet have an exact timeline we are looking at there being a solution for the free users by the end of next month (May). This is our initial estimation and might change but rest assured the Free plugin is not forgotten and just requires additional development and testing.

We will update the plugin this week with information about this to avoid further confusion and issues in the meantime.

    Thanks!

Hey @joelsmashballoon – thanks so much for that info. Appreciate you doing everything you can to fix this issue for users of the free version.

I’ve put a temporary note on our website under the twitter feed to explain that the feed is not currently working. Is there some way you could add some “holding text” to an update to your free version to replace the feed content with a message explaining that there is currently a technical issue with displaying the embedded twitter feed but that this is currently being resolved?
