Hello, totally new to WordPress here and trying to work it out.

For some reason that I can’t divine, certain pages on my site are showing up without a sidebar column, while others are. For example:
    https://home.ybusagreen.org/?page_id=8 – no sidebar
    https://home.ybusagreen.org/?page_id=17 – sidebar

How odd. I haven’t been editing any of the CSS for pages, just for the header and menu, so I’m not sure how it got that way. Any advice (preferably in layman’s terms) would be helpful.

  • You have a page template on https://home.ybusagreen.org/?page_id=8 (one column page) and there is no sidebar. ?? Change it to default page template.

But see I have no idea how I did that, I don’t even know where the page templates are. (Like I said, I’m new).

In admin menu. Go to “Pages”, open your page and in right corner you will see “Page Attributes” meta-box, there is “Parent, Template, Order”. You need “Template”. Select to “Default Template” and save your page.

Yeah in the Page Attributes box there are only options for parent and order, there is no template dropdown menu. When I’m on the list of all pages and do a quick edit it shows the box for template but all the pages are set to default template.

On https://home.ybusagreen.org/?page_id=8 . Html tag body have a class
page-template-onecolumn-page-php , so it’s a Page Template. Ok, let’s try to delete it. Go to yoursite.com/wp-content/themes/themename/ search for onecolumn-page.php or something like this and delete it.

    How it’s going? ??

Yeah that never works I’ve seen all around for various fixes that always say to go to whatever page.php, like header.php, and it either takes me to my homepage or gives me something like this:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function language_attributes() in /usr/local/ndn/web/oneclicks/wordpress/wp-content/themes/twentyten/header.php on line 12

Throught your ftp, just delete file this file ?? (copy it on computer, for be sure)

Yes the whole ftp thing is another can of worms that I have yet to figure out, thanks for your help though.

You are welcome. The onecolumn-page.php eats your sidebar ??

Ok I am just throwing this out there in case anyone else in the future comes across dilemmas like this —

I finally figured out the root of a lot of problems I was having with WordPress, and it’s because through DreamHost I did a simple one click install which meant I didn’t have access to any of the templates or any of that good stuff, so since I already didn’t know what I was doing and every fix to every problem was telling me to go to wp-content/themes/twentyten/page.php etc etc and that didn’t exist for me the way it was installed, it was super confusing. Instead I did a custom install and now I have access to all of those files, can add plugins, and so on. Hope this helps someone very confused in the future!
