twentyfourteen feature slider becomes unresponsive on mobile phone (iPhone)

the slider becomes unresponsive when you swipe a certain way. Usually occurs when I swipe diagonally. I think it is trigering two events (vertical and horizontal swipe) that the slider cannot process.

Only the slider area or container becomes unresponsive. Can’t swipe at all from this area once frozen and previous/next buttons toggles but no effect.

As a quick fix, how could I disable swipe events on the feature slider on mobile phones.
