  • The best way would be to set up a child theme and override the default CSS sheet. The if they upgrade the theme with 3.1 you won’t lose your changes.

I will not upgrade to 3.1, is there any way of modify the style.css directly?

It’s always advisable to upgrade the latest version of WordPress. There are new security patches in each new version. That said if you want to edit the styles.css file directly you can either use the built-in editor (appearance/editor) or grab and FTP client (Cyberduck, Filezilla) and download the file edit it and upload it over the old version.

    Hi curtismchale,Thanks for your advice.

I know how to edit the style.css directly, but what I mean is that how to edit the style.css to let this theme to “Fluid Layout”.

I am not very proficient in css,I just want to get some method to change this theme to “Fluid Layout” by editing the style.css file.

You’ll have to learn CSS to do this. No other way around it. You’ll need to find the wrappers for the main content area, whole site, and the sidebar and change them to percentages.

    Hi curtismchale,Thanks for your advice.

    I will learn CSS !

    Hey,

Not sure if you fancy taking a dip but I’ve just put out an alpha version of a TwentyTen child theme which aims to not only be fluid but also responsive (i.e. layout adapts to best suit screen size).
At present it doesn’t support IE but hey that’s better than nothing right?

I appreciate all feedback of course.

Alpha version can be found here.

    Todd
