Hi, I am getting “Missing: updated” errors from Google Structured Data Tool in all my posts.

I already investigated about this and there are a lot of posts and information on how to solve this by modifying the single.php code and add an “update” entry, however the Twenty Fourteen Theme doesn’t have any of the information related.

On some of the posts it says that if the info is not there, I should add it, but I don’t know what to add and where.

If there is any other way to solve this Missing: updated will appreciate your help.

So I fixed this problem by modifying the Twenty Fourteen theme’s template-tags.php file, following this website’s instructions:

However, I don’t like the fact that now what’s presented on the front-end are the dates of when I’ve updated a post, and not the dates of when the posts were first posted. Is there any way to restore it to the former without getting a bunch of “Missing: updated” errors from Google or will I have to change themes to fix this?

Sorry, found the solution. For anyone else: I had actually followed another guide to fix the Missing: updated error, and it had made me change the following:

esc_attr( get_the_date( ‘c’ ) ),
esc_html( get_the_date() ),

to:

esc_attr( get_the_modified_date( ‘c’ ) ),
esc_html( get_the_modified_date() ),

I just removed the “modified”, so now I assume I should no longer have the “Missing: updated” error, but also have the original post dates shown on my site.

In TwentyTwelve you can emit a custom byline to fix the issue, like this:
