I simply want to head a custom header to my site using Twenty Fifteen, but every time I add an image, it either shows up in the left-hand sidebar or as the background image of the content area. I want my header to be where it is in the theme’s doc page.

    I appreciate any help.

Hi Mr. Case. Here’s my URL.

    Thanks.

i think that image from the theme’s doc page might be coming from the ‘featured image’ which can be found on the individual page and post level. have you tried adding the image there, instead of the header image?

Yes, you’re correct. I can set a header image that way per page or post. Still, it seems odd to say that this theme does custom headers when it throws the custom header into the sidebar as a background. Is there a way to get my header image to show on all pages?

    Thank you.

well a header, or at least what most people think of when one says ‘header’, is a very global term. the header shouldnt or doesnt change much from page to page. so that is the type of functionality built into the twentyfifteen theme.

in order to set a global header that appears where you featured image does now, you would have to modify the themes template files. might be a bit too in depth to discuss here.

I found an explanation I think for the problem I’m having:

The other difference is that changing the Header Image on Twenty Fifteen actually changes the background of the entire sidebar (on desktop). Only on a mobile device is there a header image.

Still not sure why this is so, but in any case, thanks for your feedback. I’ll probably create a child theme that supports my users’ setting a global header for the desktop version.
