  • Do not edit the Twenty Eleven theme. It is the default WordPress theme and having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues. First create a child theme for your changes.

after that how do i edit individual widgets and menus etc can you help me with that

    thanks

You cannot edit the code of the default widgets but you can amend the display using CSS in your child theme.

ya i’ve tried that but i just want to customize the sidebar widgets instead it changes everything

You will need to be a lot more specific than that. We need details…

i want to put a border around my sidebar widgets but when i do that it creates the border around the footer menu widget as well which i dont want

I suggest getting familiar with Firebug, it’s a great tool for working with CSS.

Once you do that, you can see what CSS is specific to each widget.

For example #secondary .widget-title {color: #ddd;} should allow you to apply a style to only the sidebar widget titles. You can get into widget specific classes as well.

thanks I’ll try that I hope it works

I am tryig to use Twenty Eleven. When I drug the meta data over to the sidebar, the RSS feeds automatically put in don’t work? I cannot find where to enter the correct entries RSS and Comment RSS.
I am not a programmer and only do cut and paste in the .php Editor to modify text… that is …. that is what I have done in the past on my old theme but it isn’t working here.
