    How does the search box work when header text is turned off? I see it lives in nav bar, then as you shrink it gets narrower, then suddenly pops up in the middle of the header image back to full size.

    I’d like it to disappear rather than cover a random bit of the header image

  • this is done in the ‘responsive styles’ section of style.css;

    add new styles to the stylesheet in your child theme to overwrite it or to hide the searchbox for very narrow screens;

    example:

    @media (max-width: 650px) {
    	#branding #searchform {
    		display:none!important;
    	}
    }

    untested – you can check for instance with a browser inspection tool such as Firefox’ web developer add-on where the formatting of the search box comes from – for the different browser widths.
