• Site starts to load Twenty-eleven (simple) then changes to be only the background with the text out of format. Sometimes I can get to show correctly if I hit refresh (nuisance) but now that doesn’t seem to work.
I have kept plug-ins updated and did upload a child theme to enable widgets on pages. Child theme to add widgets came from this forum if I recall.

Any ideas? I’m a beginner with W.org after times using w.com.

  • There are a lot of html errors, https://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3a%2f%2fcapitalmarketalerts.com%2f

The site loads fine for me in IE9 and FF11. Have you tried it with different browsers, computers?

On my main computer, it displays properly on FF and Chrome but not IE9. I’ll test on other machines.

How would I get and, more importantly, how do I fix the html errors? I am not familiar with the underlying html so have never changed anything at that level. Would that be a likely source of my display error?

I uploaded a child theme in order to get my sidebar to display on pages, should I de-install that child theme? And how do I do that?

I checked and I’m using TwentyEleven Child by Niraj.

I believe that I can now get the same benefit (sidebar on pages) by using the TwentyEleven Theme Extensions plugin.

I don’t know how to de-install the child theme.

The twentyeleven theme that comes with wp has a template for a sidebar on a page. No plugin necessary.

Go to the dashboard/appearance/themes. Choose an available theme, preview it and activate it. You don’t need to de-install the child theme.

I installed the basic TwentyEleven again and that replaced the child. Thank you.

Now, on IE9, I still get a strange display, however. I snipped it but can’t figure out how to attach it. It still has just the background without the white center section. Mine is a very simple Twentyeleven theme.

Looks fine for me in IE9.

Try ctrl, F5 to clear the cache in the browser.

I tried another computer with the same result. Works fine on FF but displays incorrectly on IE9-64bit. Same display, text on background (which is blue), not on white background which is the theme.

I am running 64 bit Win7 IE9 and it matches what I see in FF. Blue background and your theme has a white background.

What is the color setting under Dashboard/appearance/custom background?

    Thread Starter CapitalMarketAlerts

    (@capitalmarketalerts)

I’ve used color #2c5481 for the background and header text.

both machines are 64 bit, one is Windows 7 with a 32 bit IE9. The other is Vista running a 64 bit IE9. The look on the two is the same.

The correct background starts to display then is shifts to the all blue background, no white behind text.

For your problem, have you tried:
    – deactivating all plugins (yes, all) to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s). Don’t forget the ones in mu-plugins folder if you have one. If you can’t get into your admin dashboard, try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

I still see the colors correctly in IE7,8 and 9 and FF11 but I do see a problem with the photo on the right side in IE8.

OK, by process of elimination, the culprit is Jetpack. I’ll figure out what I was using of Jetpack and whether there’s another plugin to accomplish the purpose.
