You should be looking at class, not id.

To make changes to all <ul> in sidebar, use .widget ul

To limit changes to only nav menu widget, use .widget_nav_menu ul

.widget_nav_menu ul {
	list-style: none outside none;
}

I am looking at class now, but am still a little confused to be frank.

I added the code you suggested but have yet to register a change. I have also removed the line referring to the text underline when active or hovering, but this also seems to have no effect. Are you sure this is the relevant class?
