Tutorial on How To Remove "/blog" in Permalinks

Seriously people, stop doing this. Don’t suggest it, don’t recommend it. If you’re not making a patch to fix things, leave it alone.

You don’t have to edit the file.

Go in to Network Admin -> Sites -> EDIT the main site.

On that section, click on ‘Settings’

Find “Permalink Structure”

Remove blog

Now, bear in mind, if you ever resave Permalinks on your main site, you have to do it again, but this is way safer than editing a file that will be wiped out when you upgrade. Yeah. You lose all your changes when you upgrade if you do what sephil said. Please don’t.

@ipstenu (Mika Epstein), I did that on the super admin as well updated the permalink on the site dashboard but still “/blog” is not removed.

I done with plugin https://buddydev.com/plugins/remove-blog-slug-plugin/ beacause it turn all page to error 404.

It is really effective in single post, pagination, categories, and subfolder.

It does not harm anything on the site.

But, must in need to back up first the php file so that if anything unwanted result came in we could easily fix it.

Definitely, if there would be a new update for wordpress. This file will be back to normal(script will be overwritten). But since I know where this “/blog” is located doing this same method would be the answer.

If you update the permalinks on the main dash after making the super admin change, yes, blog comes back. Which is why I said don’t ??

1) set up permalinks how you want them
2) go to network admin and edit the site to remove blog
3) beer

Keep your mitts off core. It’s a bad habit, we don’t encourage it, and you can really hurt yourself if you don’t know what you’re doing. Pease never suggest it unless its as an actual patch (which should be submitted to trac, not the forums).
