• Not sure what is going on here, the plugin secretly turned on a maths captcha on one of my sites, the maths captcha code did not work properly, and we were all locked out

so had to delete the plugin from cpanel

  • I’m having this issue as well, seems like it’s from the most recent update.

I get the math captcha form, but even upon correct answer, I get bounced and logged out.

    Sorry for all the trouble!

This Math captcha is added by the new Protect module, and is displayed whenever the module thinks you may be a bot.

If you get locked out, you can unblock yourself by following the instructions here:
    https://jetpack.me/support/security-features/#unblock

If that doesn’t help, let me know here or in a new support thread!

I followed the directions at the link above and now get the WSOD when I try to log in.

I had to rename the jetpress plugin on the server side, log in, rename it to jetpack on the server side to re-enable it, and then disable the “Protect” feature.

I’m getting the same WSOD. Login captcha does not work! This is a horribly bad feature! Tried to whitelist myself and still doesn’t work. Now I’m locked out of my client site. This is so bad, it’s as if the feature wasn’t even tested before it was released…??

Sorry about that. We did test things before the release, but unfortunately a few bugs made it through our tests and our beta testing group. Could you try the following:

    1. use FTP or Cpanel to delete the jetpack folder from your plugins folder on the server – you’ll find it here:
      wp-content
        plugins
           jetpack - DELETE THIS FOLDER
    2. Once you’ve done so, install this small plugin on your site:
      https://i.wpne.ws/aRoP
    3. Activate it, and then reinstall and activate Jetpack again. The errors should be gone, and you can then disable and delete the small plugin I mentioned above, and keep using Jetpack without the Protect module until we release a fix for that issue. That should happen very soon, as we plan to release 3.4.2 as soon as our tests are over, some time next week if we don’t find more bugs to be fixed.

Let me know how it goes.

Latest version Jetpack 3.5.3 has similar behaviour, so here as well, the rule is:
    – rename the jetpress plugin on the server side,
    – log in,
    – rename it to jetpack on the server side to re-enable it,
    – disable the “Protect” feature.

I am using Jetpack version 3.7. and it is not letting me in the site at all, what is going on

@headlineplus Could you please start your own thread, as per the Forum Welcome?

It would also be helpful if you could let me know what error message you get when you try to log in.

    Thank you!

Hi, i am getting the same maths question as above. I am using the latest version but the maths question is still happening from time to time. When it does happen, it does not let me in the site for many hours.

I contact my hosting company to follow the instructions above, and they said to first let you know that i am using the latest version

    Thanks!

sent the email, but this is what it is showing me all the time

    Prove your humanity: 1 + 6 =

Solution I applied to all our sites that have the jetpack plugin and where we observed similar issues:
    1. use ftp and disable/delete jetpack plugin.
    2. login to backend and reinstall jetpack, but disable security option
    3. follow forums to find permanent solution ??
