• It seems I have missed something in my installation of WordPress as I have no Update Services in my Admin Panel.

How do I turn on Update Services?

Paste that into the box, update by clicking the button to the bottom right. that should sort things out.

But I am expecting to see an Update Services sub- tab on the Writing Tab. It is not there. Is that where the box you refer to is?

    GJ

    There is no tab.
Options > Writing > Scroll down to see the box.

I am missing something here. On the Write Post page, I have the various oxes for Write Post, then under that are Advanced (inluding Custom Fields, and that is it.

    ??

    Not the Write Post ??

    Click Options, then Writing.

    Thanks

So I click Options then Writing all I see is one box headed Writing Options. I’ve seen screen shots showing the Update Services and there is nothing like this on my version of WordPress. Everything else seems to match. Not sure if it makes a difference but this is a WordPress installed by netfirms.com through their website hosting plan.
    Thanks for any help.

It might. Hosting varies in how it allows things. There were a few people complaining about something with netfirms a while back; you might search and see if there’s anything there to help. Or you might talk to netfirms to see if they install some “custom” version of wp – such as that from mu.www.remarpro.com – which they may have customized even further.

Thanks – generally happy with Netfirms but they do seem to do the occasional oddball thing. I’m waiting for a reply from them. If it helps I’ll post it here.

So this is the reply I get from Netfirms –
“We would suggest, checking which version this feature is available in. Currently we are running WordPress 2.0. Also check to see if this feature is available but installing a wordpress module or plugin. “
They say they will look at including it in the future.
Is there a plugin that will provide this facility or something similar?

    They are complete morons…
It was there even in 1.5.
No plugin. If they install it – they should be more knowledgeable about it!
And version 2.0 is totally unsafe. And it also has that feature built-in, unless they modified the code.

Don’t rely on netfirms, they have one of the worst record around here.
And never believe what they promise… or say.
