• I know much of the discussion with the advent of WP3 Multisite is consolidating your individual blogs into one Multisite network. But what if you want to go the other way. For example, I want to sell off one of the domain-mapped child blogs in my Multisite install. Does anyone know how to export a child blog out of multi site and turn it into a stand alone wordpress site, keeping the content structure intact?

Are you saying that Tools -> Export includes media and images to be exported?

Other way actually ?? Tools -> IMPORT has an option for media and images to be IMPORTED. Provided the media/images are still fetchable. It should grab all the media associated to the posts.

if you’re moving the WHOLE network, that’s different indeed.

Do you think it will be fetchable?

    here are the setings.

my main networked site is domain.com
my child site that I want to move is child.domain.com

I want to create a sub domain on my cpanel name child.domain.com
install wp on sub domain child.domain.com
    import the exported data
copy pluings folder that I am using in my child site and copy it in the new sub domain.

    is this the right process?

    Thanks

    Site obliterated….

Even moving my files to the new site did not help because the network child site keeps wp-content/files/[number]/…

The stand alone keep files in wp-content/uploads/…

Even if I moved my files, the imported xml files is not pointing to the moved files.

How can I transfer the files now?

Do a search & replace on the image location.

Thanks.. I manually upload again the images… it’s not that much since it’s a test site.

Just want to see if there is an easier way to move a child site. It turns out it isn’t

    Thanks

So, coming back to the original question of turning a child blog into a standalone site: the answer is: NO ??

Many workarounds and export import steps, but not “Tool” to do it automatically…

What about XCLONER guys? Just came to my mind as I use it to replicate sites from staging to final servers…?

I like it, quite simple and once you understand the logic, probably the smoothest opion… However, I haven’t tried it on multisite with a child blog yet, just with standalone…

never heard of it, and unless it;s been coded specifically to work with multisite, I would expect it to clone the whole db.

And you’re right – there is no one tool to export a “whole” child site. just different methods.
