trying to upload images from computer, error message confuses me

  • “Unable to create directory /home/georgia/public_html/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/11. Is its parent directory writable by the server?” is the error message. What does this mean? How do I know if the parent directory is writable by the server – which server anyway, the server the site is hosted by or the server I’m trying to upload from?

    If I’m uploading files to the server, wouldn’t that mean the parent directory is writable?
