In the Postie settings under Message, there is
    Default post by mail category:
    and also
    Default Post Type:

However, I’m trying to get all incoming emails to be posted into an existing Forum (call it say Email). This way the emails will all be collected into a forum instead of appearing in the main feed as posts. I’m using bbPress for the Forum plugin.

I tried setting Default Post Type to forum but that creates a forum. If I set it to Topic, then it creates a Topic but not within the forum.

Any chance of getting a Default post by mail forum, or an explanation of how it can be done if currently possible? Thanks.

  • I’m struggling with exactly this issue too. I would really like to be able to get my users posting using WP and bbPress with Postie, rather than mailist, which is pretty archaic.

    Here is what I know:

Setting the default content type to topic means that Postie posts the topic without a forum.

Setting the default content type to forum means a new forum is created every time an email is received.

I have not tried to set it as a reply. It looks like without something a little custom, bbPress and Postie cannot be used together to replicate a mailing list type function.

    Any suggestions?

Honestly I think you are better off using a system that is built to do this.
Communifire https://axerosolutions.com/ seems to work well.
