Trying to install WP to run text for my HTML

Trying to install WP to run text for my HTML on a web developer course. The course includes web hosting and even a tutorial suggesting PC users to use WP, along with an installation link. After following the install instructions using FireFTP as a file transfer manager, the instructor has us transfer index.html from his server to my PC. In order to open “index.html”, I have to right click and open it with WP. My problem is I can’t find WP! I can find about 12 WP, .php files but I don’t know where to go from there in order to open my webpage. I’m new to the tech world. Am I making any sense? Please help!!! Much thanks.
