• Hi,

Google and OpenDNS correctly identified one of my sites as being used for a phishing attack. The host assisted in restoring a clean backup.

Now I am in recovery and enhanced security mode, but feeling strangled because OpenDNS is blocking:

    1 – cpanel
    2 – FTP
3 – view of restored website, the phishing warning page displays
    4 – cannot access wp-admin

I can access ftp and cPanel via a round about (webhost-server)/~acctname but that is limiting. I can’t really get to work and install a fresh version of WP and plugins.

I’m trying to use a browser or technique to get to work and am stumped.

OpenDNS and PhishTanks are empty of information and instructions for a web developer to follow to get back online.

Not willing (yet) to signup and install OpenDNS in my world, as their documentation and support is nil for my purposes, and they want to have authority on my machine.

Have worked on this a couple of days, and will appreciate any leads.

    Thanks!
    Don

  • To get back to work it sounds like you might need to change the DNS servers your desktop/laptop is using. Try setting the servers to 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2, which are publicly accessible servers maintained by Verizon.

Note: even if this solves the problem for you, it doesn’t deal with the problems with OpenDNS. Can’t help you there.
