• I currently have a website on my business’s domain. I want to build a new site using wp and avoid any downtime. If I build the wp site in the subdirectory, mydomain.com/blog, how do I then switch it so the wp site shows up at mydomain.com once it’s complete.
Everything is with the same host and within the same directory.

    thanks.

    Thanks.
I was hoping it was less technical. I have to admit I don’t understand half of those instructions.

Also, I’m sure that’s what I’m looking for.
I think I want to build the wordpress site in a subdirectory then move it to the root directory.

Just give it a try its easy. If you are stuck, then post again here. I guess your issue is resolved.

Those Codex instructions are a lot more involved than they need to be, IMO. They make the assumption that you are moving an existing WP install into a subdirectory. However, if you are doing a new install, you can just install it right into the subdirectory using the standard 5-minute instructions. I’ve done that on several of my sites. The only thing you might need to change are the .htaccess settings.

After rereading it, then looking at my file manager, it may not be as tough as I thought. And if I screw it up, just re-upload my old site.

    Thanks.
