I have a wordpress site running on https://abc.com

I want to move the site to abc.com/wp

So I installed wordpress on abc.com/wp. I used UpdraftPlus to backup everything from the old install and restore them onto the new install. On the new install, I changed admin->general-> both site addresses to point to abc.com/wp, so that I can do a quick sanity check before making it live. After that I could not go back to the new install’s wordpress admin via abc.com/wp/wp-admin. After I enter user name and password, it will just pause for a few second and nothing will come up. Any ideas what is going on?

    Hi wzfoto,

The free version of UpdraftPlus doesn’t have the ability to move a site – it can backup, or restore, but not clone/move (which UD calls ‘Migrate’). That’s part of UpdraftPlus Premium – https://updraftplus.com/shop/updraftplus-premium/

    Best wishes,
    David

    Hi David

How do I restore the site back to the original state? I have deleted the new install at abc.com/wp, but now I can not even bring the admin console (abc.com/wp-admin) back – it seems to be pointing to abc.com/wp/wp-admin.

    Hi wzfotom,

That’s a hard one to answer from here. Some browsers cache redirects, so it could be that. Or you might have something in your .htaccess file.

    David
