• I”ve already had a rant about allowing plugin authors to review their own plugins (how I wish they couldn’t), but now I’d like to propose a “trusted reviewer” role in the forums where users can be assigned that role due to their history of unbiased, trusted and thorough reviews… thoughts?

It’s a horrible idea. What you think is a “history of unbiased, trusted and thorough reviews” isn’t necessarily unbiased.

The review system permits anyone to review plugins or themes. That includes authors. When someone reviews their own plugin people can see who they are. The forums identify them as an author or contributor.

That may seem odd but it’s valid and permitted.

    Yup
    “That includes authors”
Yup but like I said I’ve already spoken about that HERE, as have others, and others again,

“That may seem odd but it’s valid and permitted”
That’s the least useful argument for instigating a fairer system

but we won’t go there as it’s not the topic here.

It could be something like a StackExchange reputation system or Forum mod tagging users etc that they deem as giving better good reviews.

What do you think the reviews here are for? Honest question.

The reviews are for feedback from users about the plugins or themes. They’re unvarnished, meaning that some reviews are fantastic and in depth to “plugin. Bad. 1 star”.

Some people (not many thankfully) try and use the reviews here as a sales booster. That’s just not a good idea.

I am opposed to the idea of qualifying users for reviews. That just gets in the way of people actually leaving feedback.

What I would agree with is the idea of a system that lets users check “This review was useful”. Having the reviews that users found useful float up somehow may make better feedback more apparent.

Or not. People do read the reviews already and often comment on them like any other topic in these forums.
