• Quoted from a facebook group:
“Woocommerce has taken admin control of one of my business pages. Which has now been restricted and I can’t even post to it via Instagram as ig isn’t seeing me as the administrator!”
We’ve used this plugin for years even with all it’s faults, BUT this is the last straw. A few people have posted similar and it’s very very concerning that this plugin has the ability to remove admins from their own pages, whether it’s a fault or not!
For us it’s highlight that permission requests should always be checked before pressing ok and the request should 100% always be the lowest required to perform their function NOT full access.
We’ve now removed this plugin from all sites in light of others being removed from their pages. We’re not willing to risk it with our pages. A clear explanation must be given why this has happened and in what way permission requests are limited in future.
It’s a great plugin when it works and had high hopes for fixes in the new versions, but we place a lot of trust that plugins aren’t going to screw up or abuse access to our facebook pages. That trust is gone. I sincerely hope the devs pay attention to this and take action to limit the permissions, limit to just what’s needed (why are there 2 admin accounts being added to each page, what and why each business manager access is needed, etc) and in these cases MUST explain what went wrong.

  • Hey @bighippo998,

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review. I greatly apologize that the experience with the updated connection hasn’t been ideal!

Our plugin instructs Facebook to create a system user when connecting and only receives an access token for that user so that the plugin can connect and make changes. This token is stored in your site securely and can only be used by your website.

Additionally, you as the merchant are in full control and can revoke permission from the system user at any time by fully deleting the user.

During the connection process, the plugin requests the minimum permissions in can in order to 1) establish the connection and give the system user access to the selected assets, and 2) allow the system user to perform operations on those assets.

Having said all that, we have received some reports from a few merchants who have encountered multiple system admin users being created. We are working closely with Facebook to get to the bottom of this issue and we’re sorry to hear that your account was affected as well.

Thanks once again for taking a moment to share your feedback. As a result of this feedback, our team is working to prepare some documentation to detail the various levels of permissions our plugin requests from Facebook and specify what these are used for so we can ensure full transparency going forward.

    All the best,
    Tamara

    Hi @bighippo998

Did you solve the Instagram issue?

Taging my products on Instagram posts is the main reason I’ve built a website, it makes no sense to use a plugin that takes that away from me.

    Hey @bighippo998,

Thanks for reaching out again. Our plugin doesn’t specifically integrate with Instagram but I’m happy to check with our team to see if we have any other similar reports and if we can contact the Facebook team to look into this for you as this sounds like something specific to your account.

Would you please reach out to our support team through our site sharing the email address you use for your Facebook account so I can ask the Facebook team to look into this Instagram issue for you?

    Thanks,
    Tamara
