Truncating removes line breaks

This may be a bit odd, but is there a method to prevent the auto-truncating from removing line breaks?

I’m all for truncating posts. It looks unsightly otherwise. Unfortunately, having something mushed together just to fit within the confines of being truncated, looks just as silly.

So instead of having a blog with..

“abcd

efg”

truncated to..

“abcd efg”

I’d rather leave the line breaks and truncate only the amounts of words displayed.
