• I am new to WP and has been tryingwant to truncate the titles of the recent posts in the menu.

I want the titles in the menu for recent posts (“Senaste inl?¤gg”) to be limited to one line. Today my menu looks like this:
    https://blogg.svenssonsvensson.com

I used Blogwise (www.blogwise.com) before and there it looked as I want it:
    https://svensson.blogsome.com

Maybe they use some plugin at Blogwise? Now I use the plugin “Customizable Post Listings” – can I make it look the same? I want the titles to be about 20 characters and followed by three dots (…) if truncated. Can it be done?

Sorry, when I wrote “Blogwise” I meant “Blogsome” … was a bit too quick there … (https://www.blogsome.com)

still no response? it’s gonna be a cool feature.

Yes you can. I can’t give you exact directions because I altered my original index so much. However, under the template section in the index where the recent posts are listed the limitations should already be defined. It would be the number within the parenthesis. You can just change the number to 20 or play with those to get the look you want. You can always revert to the earlier saved back up if you screw anything up. Goodluck.

For some reason, this is one of very few posts about truncating recent posts’ titles, but it doesn’t offer a solution as far as i can judge. The number mentioned in get_archives is about the number of posts to be shown, not about the length of the title. At least, that’s my conclusion when reading about the get_archives function and trying to play around with it.

I’m now close to just modifying template-functions-general.php with an extra elseif argument for postbypost-truncate to take a substr of the title. But I suck at scripting so it will be messy :/
