Truncate short description on shop page

    I am wondering if there is a way to truncate the short description on the shop/archive page. I sell gemstone jewelry and have included a short description so customers can see at a glance what the product can be used for. But I want to add a more unique description underneath the title—I feel like it’s prime real estate and it frustrates me that the description doesn’t come until after the images, because people might not scroll down to read the whole thing. Simultaneously, I don’t particularly care to have the SKU and categories at the top, but that might be a separate question.

    I was able to add the short description to the shop page, which is great, but if I add the unique description, that also gets added (you can see that here: https://lovestonedjewelry.com/shop/)

    I want to keep the second half of the description, but only underneath the title so I can keep the description section for the logistics of the piece, similar to how it’s done here. Is there a plugin or code snippet I can use to truncate the description on the shop/archive pages (preferably not using the “read more” toggle, but not a dealbreaker)?

    Hi @mstholman ,

    Thanks for your question! It sounds like you’re referring to the product summary that appears below each listing, is this correct? This one right here: https://snipboard.io/MUONjb.jpg

    If so, depending on the theme you’re using, you should be able to adjust this through the appearance editor. If your site is compatible with the site editor, you can choose to display an excerpt instead of the full description. Additionally, you may edit the “Read more” link text.

    Please keep in mind that this functionality is theme-dependent, I checked and your theme “Amulet” should have this function.

    Hi @reynierc, thank you for your response!

    Yes, I am using Amulet. I can see from your video that you are using the Products (Beta) block. I cannot seem to insert that block on my shop page, but I was able to add the product summary as you demonstrated to my product catalog template. I removed the code snippet I was using to prevent the summary from appearing twice. I was able to go into the code editor to shorten the maximum number of words in the summary to 5 and this is working OK for most of my products. The fifth word of that first product ends up being the beginning of the “unique” description. So I will either need to edit all of my short descriptions to four or five words to prevent the unique description from appearing underneath. The former seems the best option as I have fewer product descriptions that are five words.
