    Troubleshooting:

Maximum execution time of X seconds exceeded

This means WP-Cron isn’t running on your server.

It’s either turned off manually or unavailable – please reach out to your hosting provider to enable it.

    Missing Files

It can happen that files (primarily images or JavaScript/CSS files) are missing on your static site because the file is either not linked to or uses markup Simply Static does not understand and parse.

There are two ways to solve that:

    1. Include it in Simply Static -> Settings -> General -> Include -> Additional Files and Directories
    2. Extend the markup tags for Simply Static as described here: https://simplystatic.com/docs/add-missing-files-to-your-static-website/#Missing-images

    Static Export does not start

This happens if your server/hoster does not fullfill all the requirements for Simply Static to run.

You can check that by navigating to Simply Static->Settings->Diagnostics.

    Some common pitfalls:

    • No real domain connected to your installation (Can’t make requests to itself)
    • No SSL certificate running on your server
    • A proxy setup prevents fetching pages (which usually happens with Docker setups)
    • WP-Cron is disabled

    Problems with local development

We recommend using LocalWP to run Simply Static on your local machine, as most others miss important features and packages.

Please note: If you use a Windows PC with LocalWP, you must use “Apache” as a server and NOT “NGINX” as the installed binary does not resolve the IP to the exact domain of your local website.

Here is a list of tools we are NOT recommending:

    • XAMP
    • MAMP
    • DevKinsta

    FAQ:

Does Simply Static work with plugin X?

Please check our documentation article here: https://simplystatic.com/docs/compatible-plugins/

A general rule that applies in 99% of the cases: If it does not rely on Ajax (server-side interaction), it will work fine with Simply Static.

Plugins which absolutely not work with Simply Static:

    • WooCommerce
    • Membership plugins
    • LMS plugins
    • Plugins that require a logged-in area of any kind

Can Simply Static export a website with X pages/files?

The short answer is yes. There is no limit to the number of pages and files Simply Static can export.

However, that greatly depends on the server your WordPress installation is running on. The more CPU and RAM available, the faster the generation process.

Here is a good base setup to export an average website:

    • 1 vCPU
    • 512 MB RAM
    • 5GB SSD
