    Dear Support Team,

I am reaching out regarding an issue with the Google Analytics 4 (GA4) implementation on my website, Furaka.vn. I have installed GA4 through Google Site Kit.

Recently, I have noticed a peculiar problem with my GA4 data. According to the GA4 statistics, the number of Page Views for my website has significantly decreased to only a few dozen, while the number of Users, as reported by GA4, remains normal. You can refer to the following image for visual representation: [Image 1 – Album on Imgur: https://imgur.com/gallery/ej4knso]

To troubleshoot this issue, I have examined the Event tracking in GA4 and identified that the Page_View event is not functioning correctly. The event seems to be failing to track the page views accurately. Please refer to the following image for reference: [Image 2 – Album on Imgur: https://imgur.com/gallery/IjUffBl]

Curiously, when I tested the event’s functionality using Google Tag Manager, it appeared to be working properly. You can find the test results in the following image: [Image 4 – Album on Imgur: https://imgur.com/gallery/NHL5FyP]

I have also attempted to install GA4 by manually adding the tracking code to the website’s header, instead of relying on Google Site Kit. Unfortunately, this change did not yield any positive results.

I kindly request your assistance in resolving this issue with the GA4 implementation on my website. Your expertise and guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

    Best regards,

Thanks for reaching out @furaka. If you’d like to share the following I’d be happy to investigate this further:

    1. Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.
    2. Did you recently install any privacy or consent type plugin before you noticed a drop in traffic?
    3. Did you at any stage configure consent mode within Site Kit, without having then configured a third party consent/cookie related plugin? I don’t see any trace of this active at present, although this may be due to changes you since made.

Note that Site Kit pulls the information directly from a users Google Analytics account, so it may be a case that a configuration with a third party consent/privacy plugin was impacting your site visits in Analytics, as opposed to any Site Kit feature. It’s also possible that you had consent mode active within Site Kit, before you made some changes to your site. We are aware of users not receiving traffic if they enable consent mode but don’t configure a third party cookie plugin.

I can also see that the tagassistant.google.com service is recognizing a non Site Kit placed snippet, so hopefully with the information you provide above, we can determine more on this.

@furaka Just to let you know that we identified an issue where if consent mode was turned on, it was being applied for all users regardless of location. We’ve now addressed this with the latest version of Site Kit, version 1.123.1. When enabled, this will only default to consent required specifically for EEA countries and the United Kingdom.

As this may have been impacting your Google Analytics traffic, please update to this latest version. Please also configure your preferred consent type plugin if you do decide to use consent mode.

Let us know if you have any questions with the above.

Thank you, I have Enabling consent mode. Hopefully it will work normally again

Thanks for the update @furaka. If you did enable consent mode, please be sure to configure your preferred third party consent plugin, in order for users to provide consent. Otherwise some users may not be counted in Analytics by default.

Be sure to reach out if you have any further questions on this. Thank you!

Despite enabling consent mode as per your instructions, GA4 is still unable to track PageViews.
I have forwarded the Site Health information of my website to you. I kindly request your assistance in identifying the issues it is encountering.

Thanks for sharing the additional information @furaka. I checked your site both manually and using the tagassistant.google.com service. From doing so I can see that site visits are recording, although visits may be blocked by default from EEA and the UK based on you having consent mode activated but without a consent banner present.

Can you install and configure your preferred consent management plugin as per this guide? That way users who visit your site can grant consent, so they are tracked in Google Analytics.

It seems that I encountered this error when updating the Plugin to the latest version. Can I revert back to the settings of the previous version to fix this error?

You can certainly downgrade to a previous version if you wish, however, this is unlikely to make any difference to your traffic. You can download any older version from this page, with a dropdown option showing all previous versions.

If you’re finding a drop in visitors, note that this may be due to Digital Markets Act (DMA) changes, meaning that only visitors who have explicitly given consent are tracked. You’ll find more on this here. This is a requirement in some regions, such as the EEU. In your case specifically, if you haven’t configured your third party consent plugin as suggested, this will result in users not being able to consent.

I can see you still do have consent mode enabled, so you can disable this considering you are not using Google ads, or configure a third party consent plugin, so you don’t lose traffic.

As we didn’t receive a response I’ll mark this as resolved. Feel free to open a new support topic if you continue to encounter issues, or reopen this topic and we’d be happy to assist.
