    Love your plug-in!

    We’re working with a lot of young people that access our site for a school club. We need to be able to whitelist their IPs as they are constantly getting locked out for spelling their usernames and passwords wrong.

    90% of the time it works fine, but we have had a couple of instances where we copy the IP into the whitelist list and save and nothing happens. It’s the same process that we use for all whitelisting. No notification comes up as to why it’s not whitelisted, the little green whitelisted box just doesn’t appear and they still get locked out.

    Any ideas? Here’s an example of one:

    Similarly, I try to blacklist some of the repeat offenders who are trying to log into our site. Most of the time it immediately adds them to the blacklist and the little black box appears, but sometimes nothing happens.

    Any help would be amazing! And I’m a bit of a website dunce, so simple language would be really appreciated.

    Hi!

    First of all, you should not manually block all those malicious IPs and maintain hundreds of them. Let the plugin do its job.

    When you tried to add an IP to the blacklist what way did you use? I mean did you click the Add button on the Activity tab or on the Access Lists tab? Both ways didn’t work?

    Okay fair point! Let’s ignore the blacklist issue for the moment – do you have a suggestion for the whitelist issue?

    I am trying to whitelist IP addresses on the Access List tab.

    Do you see any error or notification message above the form (under the page title) when you try to add an IP? Probably you try to add an IP that is already on the blacklist.

    Hi Gioni,

    No, it just kind of refreshes and no messages appear. The little green “whitelist” box doesn’t appear next to the IP address no matter how many times I try to add the whitelist IP.

    Could you export your access lists to a file and submit it here: https://wpcerber.com/support/

    Put an IP address that you’re unable to add to the Message field.

    Hey Gioni

    When I try to install the development version it says

    Destination folder already exists. /srv/www/bnc/wp-content/plugins/wp-cerber/
    Plugin install failed.

    Do I have to uninstall the existing plugin first? I don’t want to lose all the existing whitelisting progress that we’ve made.

    Yes, you have to uninstall the existing version of the plugin first. Don’t worry, no settings will be lost.

    Will I lose the history attached to the IP addresses? My team use the plugin to work out which of our users have been online recently and the frequency etc. If this history will be deleted then I’ll need to let them know.
