I tried to download about 20 different contact form plugins yesterday. The download would start for most of them, but none ever finished. I also had the same problem w/ some WP themes. I tried downloading all of these from www.remarpro.com, w/in my theme (Twenty Ten).

Additionally, I haven’t been able to connect an RSS feed.

I’m new to WP. I’m using 3.0.4 on a Mac. I’m hosting the site on my server.

Can anyone tell me how I might be able to fix these issues? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

  • Hi, it sounds like your hosting provider might be preventing your server from downloading from other servers, from what you have described. Who is your hosting provider? You might want to check with their support as well, this might be a setting they can turn off for you.

    Hi dholowiski,

Thanks so much for your response!

My ISP is 1and1.com . I just called them, and I believe you are correct. They told me that it’s best to download and upload directly from an FTP. When I did that, everything has worked. It’s definitely a clunky work around, but 1and1 is also quite a bit cheaper than the other ISPs recommended by WP.

It is cheap, for sure ?? sometimes it’s good to work under constraints, you learn more.

I did think of one more thing. Have a look at this page
    https://www.wprecipes.com/block-external-requests-on-your-wordpress-blog
It talks about HTTP_BLOCK_EXTERNAL. Check your wp-configuration.php and make sure it doesn’t contain define('WP_HTTP_BLOCK_EXTERNAL', true); – if it does, try removing it and see that fixes the problem.
If you don’t see it, try adding `define(‘WP_HTTP_BLOCK_EXTERNAL’, false; (note the false) and see what that does.
