• Hi,

I’ve developed an e-commerce site on a sub-domain of my own website. I’m now trying to transfer it to a friend’s domain, but on import I’m getting a huge long list of error messages all starting with ‘Failed to import’ followed by posts, products and variations. The XML file is 3.8mb.

I’ve searched a few forums and most people say it is to do with the size of the site. I’ve ensured that the php.ini file in Bluehost is set to the maximum time and upload size but this didn’t fix the issue. I also tried saving the XML file as a .gz file but this did not resolve the issue either.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

    Thanks,

    Ross

  • Rather than exporting the content via the WordPress dashboard, I’d advise extracting the actual database via a tool such as phpMyAdmin. An alternative could be to export and import content in smaller blocks, so start with posts, then pages & then custom post types.

I’ve just tried exporting smaller blocks, but when I tried importing the products I still get the same errors. All product imports say something along the lines of ‘Failed to import “NE19 – Quayside Sunset”: Invalid post type product’.

Can you advise how I would extract the database through phpMyAdmin as I’ve not done this before?

    Thanks,

    Ross
