trouble installing themes

  • I tried to install a number of free zipped themes .

    It looks like a one click deal on the dashboard, but then when I tried to activate , I got a list of errors.
    Now, it says “The following themes are installed but incomplete. Themes must have a stylesheet and a template.”

    where do I go from here ? I really don’t like any of the themes offered on the main page and would like to install a free one from WP.

    I guess I need to find an FTP client and go that route . I was thinking that the “install themes” tab on the dashboard made this step unnecessary….

    hmmmm…any suggestions?

    I just got word that we are unable to use FTP with wordpress ?

    totally confused.

    It maybe better to install the themes manually.

    Use Filezilla FTP client.

    Howdy,

    Are the themes you are downloading and trying to install already in ZIP format or are you attempting to ZIP them once they are downloaded? This can be an issue if you are using the default Windows archiving app.

    Or, sometimes, these themes may include more than one version (or the like) and may need to be unZIPped first.

    I have had no issues installing many themes vis the ZIP install in the dashboard.

    Additionally, one should be able to access your hosting account via FTP; has nothing to do with WordPress or any other software that may be on your hosting account.
