Trouble installing secondary language

Hi there,

I’m attempting to install German language, but Bogo/WordPress only picks up the German language if I make it default in the wp-config file. I don’t want to do this, however, as my blog is predominantly the English, and we purely want to add German as a means of translating some existing pages.

Is there some way of making this happen?

My language files are in wp-content/languages as directed, but the dropdown only specifies English (unless, as I mentioned, I make German default, then it appears).
