Sorry, I tried registering for your forum but didn’t receive the verification email, and I can’t figure out how github works. Just having probs installing this plugin. It said the file size was too big so I uploaded the decompressed folder to wp-content/plugins and it appeared. But when I tried to activate it, I got this error message:

Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_PAAMAYIM_NEKUDOTAYIM in /home/myfreesa/public_html/theshores/wp/wp-content/plugins/betteroptin/public/class-better-optin.php on line 261

Any ideas what might have caused that?

    Cheers
    Eva

    Hi,

Sorry about our support forum issue. We’ll look into it.

Could you please confirm the version of the plugin you’re using?

    Cheers,
    Julien

Would you be able to have your version of PHP upgraded to 5.3.0+? This error is caused because the plugin uses functions available in PHP 5.3.0+.

    Hi Julien

Got that updated and all working fine and dandy now. Thanks!

That’s great! It’s always a good thing to update PHP ??

Thanks for upgrading. We should highlight somewhere the fact that BetterOptin requires PHP 5.3.0+

One more quick question if I may? I’m testing my popup and it’s shown once only and I can’t get it to show again… If I set the cookie delay to 0 will that display it every time?

    Kind regards

My return URL isn’t working when someone opts in even though I’ve entered it in both places, settings and the popup. It’s not adding the user to the system either… Not sure how to fix that?

Indeed if you set the cookie lifetime to 0 then it’s like the cookie will be set and will expire instantly.

Regarding the return URL that’s surprising. Where do you land after submitting the form?

    Thread Starter evieb

    (@evieb)

The page for the return is here:
    https://theshores.com.au/?page_id=538

I’m thinking maybe the users aren’t added to the WP system because I’m using anti-spam by cleantalk plugin to stop spam signups? Yet I’ve got custom contact forms set to no for anti-spam settings there…

Sorry I didn’t answer your question. After submitting the form, it takes me back to the same page as it was initially submitted from.

Can someone please help me? I’ve got the popup done for my client but it’s not redirecting or saving the user…

    Hello again,

I was reading through your documentation for better optin and realised that my settings page only has 1 tab General and no mail chimp or wordpress tab. Has the software changed or is there something wrong with my installation?

Some of the links on this page, like the shortcode link, don’t work…
    https://support.themeavenue.net/getting-started/

I’ve been deactivating plugins and trying then reactivating them again and still no difference in my popup behaviour once the form is submitted. I’m thinking maybe because I don’t have the WordPress settings set because there’s no tab for it displaying, that’s the problem?

    Regards
    Eva

    Hi Eva,

Thanks for pointing out the broken links. We’ll be fixing that.

Regarding the rest, it is normal that you don’t see the MailChimp tab if you didn’t purchase the MailChimp addon. The core version of BetterOptin only works with the WordPress database.

Now, if you do land on the same page after submitting the form, it may mean that the submission is not saved to your database, which may be caused by cleantalk as you mentioned. I don’t know this plugin so I can’t tell you right away, but I will download it and test it with BetterOptin. Could you please check if your submissions are correctly saved in the database?
