    Hi There,
I have a chat plugin called Zopim installed on my site. I had trouble installing it in the first place so I had to submit the code into the header of the site instead.
The plugin seems to be slowing down the site significantly so I have decided to get rid of it for now at least as it seems to be having a very negative impact on sales conversions on the site.
So i went to Appearance – Editor – Header but the update edits button seems to have disappeared.
Instead it now says at the bottom of the page “you need to make this file writable before you can save your changes. See the Codex for more information.”
Went to Codex but it is away over my head.
Anyone got a simple solution for getting rid of it?
    Cheers,

    Colm

  • Basically you need to change the file permissions of your theme’s header.php file.

You can do this a few different ways, most likely the easiest is via FTP

    Thanks Bythegram.
Im in the FTP but like another problem Im having doing a redirect I am completely lost once logging in. Nothing at the codex link helps.
When I log in I get the following options
    anon_ftp
    bin
    cgi-bin
    conf
    error docs
    httpdocs
    httpsdocs
    pd
    private
    File:purchase1_.local.sql
    File: purchase1_.sql
    File:purchas1_.sql.2
    statistics
    subdomains
    File
    web_users

Any suggests on where you think I might go from here much appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Colm

From this point it is completely based on your setup (and really doesn’t have to do with wordpress which is why it’s not part of the codex).

You need to know where your wordpress files are located, I’d assume httpdocs but that is 100% a guess (every setup is slightly different). Here is what you are trying to find:

    YourWordpressDir/wp-content/themes/YourThemeName/header.php

    Thanks bythe gram.
Wordpress was indeed in the https
    Within it the options are
    Themes.php
    but also Theme-Editor.php and Theme-Install.php

    Tried opening Themes.php but got
550 /httpdocs/wp-admin/<: No such file or directory
Im using firefox maybe I am opening it wrong or something?

FTP into your site (or use whatever file management application your host provides) & delete the plugin’s folder inside wp-content/plugins.

Silly silly me. I was only logging into the FTP through the browser and not the control panel. All sorted now. Thanks for your help.
